Buyer and engineer selection guide
Compare optical, vision, weight, vibratory, step and multi-channel counting routes using the component behaviour, required evidence and downstream hand-off.
Short answer
Choose a component counting machine by matching the complete part range to a feed method, detection principle, batch boundary and discharge interface that can meet the agreed sustained output.
Do not select from headline speed alone. Require evidence from representative parts and a factory acceptance test that includes normal operating and recovery conditions.
Seven-step selection process
Capture every variant, supplier, finish and known defect condition.
State each target quantity and acceptable verification method.
Use sustained completed batches at the final hand-off.
Compare singulation, sensing, weight and vision evidence.
Agree duration, challenges, interventions and pass criteria.
Technology selection
| Counting route | Use when | Do not assume | Prove |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vibratory + optical | Repeat parts can be singulated | The sensor fixes overlaps | Spacing, signal and final-count stop |
| Step feeder + sensor | Low loading or gentle lift is useful | Every long part will avoid tangling | Lift behaviour and final presentation |
| Vision counting | Recognition or complex detection is needed | AI removes the need for validation | Lighting, dataset and reject rules |
| Count by weight | Unit mass is stable enough | Inferred quantity equals exact count | Mass variation, tare and resolution |
| Multi-channel kit system | Several components form one recipe | Each feeder has identical cycle time | Reconciliation and cross-contamination |

Frequently asked questions
Final suitability and performance depend on representative components, operating conditions and agreed acceptance criteria.
Ask about your component →Define the complete component range, target batch quantities, sustained required output, acceptable count criteria and the exact receiving container or machine condition.
Optical counting is based on individual detected parts and requires reliable singulation. Weight counting infers quantity from mass and requires stable unit weight, suitable scale resolution and an acceptable quantified risk.
Catalogue dimensions do not show how parts overlap, bounce, tangle, carry static, vary by supplier or respond to sensing. Representative samples allow the actual risks to be observed and tested.
Specify sustained correct batches per minute or hour at the agreed discharge condition, including normal refilling and container changes—not only an internal feeder peak rate.
Include all approved variants, target quantities, test duration, sustained output, refilling, low-level conditions, jams, stops, recovery, container changes, alarms and the method used to verify each finished batch.
